Ninny Noodle Noo - Knitted Dollshouse Bendy Doll

bo: bind/cast off
CO: cast on
dec: decrease
k: knit
k2tog: knit 2 together
kfb knit into front and back of the stitch to increase
m1: 'make one': pick up a stitch between stitches - however, if this is too fiddly, kfb instead.
p: purl
stst: stockinette stitch

You will need:

1.5mm dpns
Very thin crochet hook (for latch hooking hair in)
Sock weight yarn - I use Natural Dye Studio Dazzle (Blue Faced Leicester)
Mohair boucle yarn (for the hair)
Two long pipecleaners

Body (make 2):

1. co 42st
2. stst 4 rows
3. dec 1, 1 stitch in from each end of row.
4. p.
5. dec 1, 1 stitch in from each end of row.
6. bo13, m1, p1, m1, p2, m1, p3, m1, p1, m1, bo13 (should have 16 stitches on needle).
7. stst 19 rows.

Seperate for legs:
26. p8, bo2, p6
27. working on current 7 stitches, stst 26rows.
52. dec 1 at each end of row.
53. p.
54. dec 1 at each end of row.
55. bo

Rejoin yarn to remaining 7 stitches and repeat from row 26 to make second leg.

Head:

1. co 6 st and K 1 row as an i-cord.
2. kfb all sts (12st).
3. k.
4. *k1, kfb* rep from * to * (18st).
5. k.
6. *k2, kfb* rep from * to * (24st).
7. k.
8. *k3, kfb* rep from * to * (30st).
9. k 7 rows.
15. *k3, k2tog* rep from * to * (24st)
16. k.
17. *k2, k2tog* rep from * to * (18st)
18. k.
Stuff the head before continuing.
19. *k1, k2tog* rep from * to * (12st)
20. k.
21. K2tog - rep for all stitches (6st)
22. run a needle through the remaining 6 stitches and draw to a close.

Making the pipecleaner body frame:

It helps to measure the body against a knitted 'skin' to ensure the fit is ok, so the following measurements are a guideline only.

1. Take your first pipecleaner and bend into a 'W' (the inner part needs to be around 5.5cm)
2. Fold the 2nd pipecleaner over the 'W' as shown
3. Bring up the ends of the W and twist with the 2nd pipecleaner to form a body (which should be around 9.5cm long). Remember to fold over sharp ends and tuck them away.
4. Open out the 2nd pipecleaner at the top to for arms. 5. Fold arms back over. The arms should be around 5cm long.
6. Twist the ends in remembering to tuck any sharp ends away. 7. Cover the body with an oddment of chunky yarn, to help secure and keep ends away. 8. Your body is ready. You may need to wrap a little extra stuffing around the middle to fill it out once you sew it into the skin.

Finishing:

1. Pin the skin around the bendy body and sew starting from an arm pit, down, round the legs and up and over the arms (yes it's a bit fiddly!).

2. Sew the head onto the body.

3. Knit or crochet a small cap for the head, sew on and then either leave as is for a short crop or latch hook yarn in for longer hair.

4. Your basic doll body is finished, enjoy making some clothing!
